What is the best CPU on the market today?

Been a long time, just wanted to get an update. Are the octo-cores readily available for a decent price in todays market? Or are they still destructively expensive?

Best for what? The average user doesn't need a server-grade CPU lol. In terms of cost, probably Xeons.

For a desktop machine, probably the Intel Core i7 3960X.
