Pairing gpus

I currently have a intel hd graphics 3000(because of the i5-2500k) and a gtx 550 ti graphics card. the issue i am having is that apparently my computer is just using the intel hd graphics 3000 and the gtx is not used at all. I found this out when i disabled my graphics card from the device manager and played my games and realised that there was no change to performance( i was playing on shitty res and graphics settings). also i couldnt access the nvidia control panel. Keep telling me no display connected to a nvidia gpu device.

How do i remedy this? im not sure how pairing GPUs work.

the video cable like hdmi or dvi or vga. Also is your 6 pin power supply cable plugged in?

vga cable is plugged in fine, that's how my monitor is working. but if it is plugged in into the graphics card? that im not sure. on the device manager they say the card is plugged in and fine.

and i dun have a 6 pin power supply cable. O_O

Do you have a cable plugged into the card? You need to have the power cable from your psu plugged into the card otherwise you could short out the card.

look at the back of your 550ti, do you see those 6 holes? You need to plug a cable in there.

omg im so dumb. just took a closer look at my com vga cable is not plugged to the right port. No wonder i keep using the stupid intel graphics 3000. Thx amuffin for the being so tolerant haha
