It would be a good idea if they didn't keep them secret...

And the last paragraph is:-
" While the low-end, compact digital camera market is now maturing,
competition in the high-end SLR digital camera market is also getting
fiercer, as rivals Canon, Nikon Corp and Konica Minolta shift to SLR digital
cameras."
Most of us here noticed this shift a few years ago - I wonder where the
reporter has been all this time ? (Unless he's just concentrating on Konica
Minolta.)

Why two models, do you think?
The E-1 definitely needs updating, 'cuz right now the E-300 outspecs it
(except for pro-photographer durability/usability issues) but what would
Olympus be trying to accomplish with a second high-end DSLR?

I can't believe that entering the high end market will lead to
profitability. They will have to spend a massive amount of money to enter
the high-end market. They can't bootstrap off of their low-end 4:3 models,
and build a high end camera, they have to start from scratch and abandon
4:3. Then they have to spend massive amounts of money on marketing and
advertising, to convince buyers that they should take a chance on a new
player. They will have to price their cameras less than the competition in
order to win market share, a common practice when a company enters a new
market segment.
Unless they are just going to release some more low-end cameras and claim
that they are high-end, but even this won't work, as most buyers of digital
SLRs are not going to fall for this kind of thing.

The E-300 and E-1 are low end, not high end. The article indicates a whole
new direction, the abandonment of 4:3, and the desire to compete against
Canon's and Nikon's prosumer models, where Olympus doesn't compete today.

No idea, but one will most likely be a "Pro" 8MP. The other one might be
another 8MP to widen the range of 4/3 DSLRs, I'd guess.
