I'm planning to use a z68 motherboard, the GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD4 with an i7-2700k.
Can I use the integrated graphics at the start, then switch to discrete graphics later?
I'm not concerned with the power of the integrated graphics, I just need to know if I can run the system sans discrete cards. If not, I'll just use a p67 mobo and wait for my cards.

Once again: Can I use integrated graphics now and switch to discrete graphics at a later date?

Thanks,
R

Yes you can , use the integrated graphics for now till you get your discrete cards later. Sure the integrated wont be good for gaming but at least you will have a pc that runs visuals for everyday use.

The HDMI port on the back panel I/O on the motherboard confirms that you can use the IGP for now.

Thanks, I'm amazed at the speed of the replies.
Does the motherboard need to have the active switching capability like the gigabyte mobo mentioned in the first post?
Or does it work that I select which graphics I use from BIOS or control panel?
The gigabyte motherboard has active switching, but is that necessary?
I'm guessing it doesn't matter, but in case it does, any information about it would be great.
Thanks again!

In the CMOS Setup Utility menu ---> Advanced BIOS Features menu I would make the following changes:

...
Init Display First setting [PCI] is the default option - change it to [Onboard] since there's no use in making the POST process look for a graphics card in a PCI slot. Once you get a discrete graphics card and plug it into the PCI-Express x16 slot change this option to [PCIE x16].

Onboard VGA setting [Auto] is the default option - change it to [Enable If No Ext PEG]. Once you get a discrete graphics card and plug it into the PCI-Express x16 slot the onboard graphics will be automatically disabled.
