More about : upgrade worth 120

Not really. If you had an AM3/3+ motherboard with DDR3 RAM, then I'd say yes, but such as it is, that board will limit the 965's full potential IMHO.

In all likelyhood yes, it probably would give you a small bump in performance, but not enough to justify 120 bucks. As I mentioned above, it may also greatly reduce the life of your motherboard assuming it does work. Running a CPU that has a higher TDP than the motherboard supports can cause it to burn up..Literally in some cases. This factor is increased because of the fact that obviously your system isn't new, so it already has some mileage on it.

Yea its a performance bump, as long as you know that
1. It may not work
2. This is a very real possibility if it does work:

Also, I checked the motherboards CPU support list, its not on there:

My guess is that because the 965 has a TDP of 125 watts, and pre-965 were 95.. Your board may not be able to sustain the wattage of the 965.

What do you mean its not there? It is there but listed as z965. The board supports 125W. Check again.

You're absolutely right, I didn't see it because of the Z. thanks for pointing it out.

Forget everything I said up until now. LOL.

By all means, green light on the upgrade. With my apologies.

Its not a super huge difference, but if I were in your situation, yea, I'd spend the 120 bucks.
