My new laptop came bundled with XP home.

C Drive has been formatted with NTFS and partitioned to full size.

I want to have two partitions on the drive.

Please help

You need to purchase third party software. Partition Magic, by Symantec, is
well-known and very reliable. However, partitioning a hard disk is not a job
for the novice. Make sure you read and understand the instructions
thoroughly.

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing partitions,
and not harm your existing Windows installation, is to use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8.
http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/

Otherwise, a "clean install" of Windows XP will be required
since you'll have to delete all the existing partitions and create
new partitions.

Why PM8? Suggesting for someone to buy PM8 for $70 is not good advice for what they want to do, as in this case. You need to stop towing the MS recommendation line, and think about reality, and common sense in what these cases call for, and think about helping one to save money for these particular needs. BootItNG will do exactly what he needs, and it is a trial use for 30 days, and $35 to purchase, and can do everything PM can, other than reverse file systems.

To the OP, go here http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ and download this proggy, works a treat, and is well worth the money, and uses very little drive space, or use up resources.

Who pays full price for Norton software? It's always discounted and rebated.
I haven't paid a penny for NAV since 2000, and my copy of Ghost was also
free thanks to a 100% rebate on Norton Systemworks Pro. Even when Partition
Magic was owned by PowerQuest, I only paid $25, after discount and rebate,
and I've found many uses for it since that first time I partitioned my hard
disk. For me, $25 was a small price to pay when the very integrity of my
system was at stake.

As for BING, it's a fine program, but the interface is not for the novice,
like our OP. (Not that there's anything wrong with being a novice. I was a
novice for a long time. Too long, but that's another story.)

I'll second the bootITNG program from terabyte.com. I've used it many times
on desk tops and lap tops and I've never lost anything because of it. And it
hasn't cost me a cent yet. You just cancel the install and enter the
'Partition Work' section and do what you want to with the partitions. I run
linux and xp on both computers and I partitioned both the way I wanted
before installing with bootIT. It runs off of a bootable cd now too.

Hi,

Actually Partition Magic is closer to $29.95 than $70 if you get it off
ebay. I've been happy with the copy I bought off ebay right from the start.
