intel i5 2500k/3450ivy or an AMD Phenom ii x6 1100T. Basically I wish they had hyper threading for the i5 k Series processors but unfortunately no and I don't Need a i7, it would be a waste for me.
If someone could give me a comparison on the reliability, power consumption, life span approx., and which you'd go with. I really would like to pair an i5 with the new z77 mobo (It'll probably be the 3450 ) but if It doesn't work out I'll just go with amd am3 system.
For reliability, all CPUs are very reliable. In all my time I have only had one or two actual bad CPUs.
For power consumption, the i5 3450 will be the best of the three, the 2500K will be the second best but also allow for overclocking.
For lifespan, the 2500K/3450 will have a longer lifespan in terms of longevity. In terms of lasting before going bad, I still have seen Pentiums (first gen Pentiums from the early to mid 90s) still working. Again, CPUs are very reliable compared to the majority of other components.
But your sig states you have a system already and honestly you could upgrade to a Phenom II X6 and then spend the rest on a GPU upgrade instaed. But performance wise, the 2500K or 3450 will be better overall.
There is no better answer then that.3450 it is. Overall it'll save me money if you're saying what intel will do & even if I get the phenom x6 cause this is probably the last person build i'll do for years to come other then gpu upgrades about once a year or so
First was a dell dimension 4500 w/ pentium 4 dual core actually not bad.
