Ati hd 5770 drivers black screen on startup

Ive just purchased an ssd and am using at a boot up drive. I have installed windows 7 and it works fine.
I then installed the latest ATI drivers. After install Windows restarts. The loading screen appears, loads and then you hear windows startup. As soon as the loading screen disappears the screen goes black.
I have tried two earlier versions of the driver including the one that works on my previous hdd. (v 8.892)
I have currently switched back to my old hdd and all is working fine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Boot drive OCZ 120GB vertex plus SSD
Data drive 1tb samsung hdd

Have you tried installing the drivers on the HDD rather than SSD?

Just choose "Custom" on the install options and change the file path from "C:\program files\ATI Technologies" to D:\Program files\ATI Technologies (or whatever your HDD's drive letter is)

Your PC will then load the graphics driver from your HDD rather than SSD when windows boots... I'm not sure why it would have a problem loading it from the SSD though.
