Hey guys, i just built a computer and im using the Corsair 400r for my case. It comes with 2 fans in the front and 1 in the back. Its got 2 more on the top, 2 on the side and 1 in the bottom. I was wondering if fans come in different types, like are some exaust and others intake? Also, id like to know where i should put the fans. Like should i put intake on top or exaust on the bottom? I dont want to just go buy a bunch of fans and put them in terrible spots. Thanks!
They are all the same, it's just the way you face them. I would put exhaust as top fans as priority, then side intake, then a bottom fan. Make sure they are all 120mm and are "good" fans, for an example: Cougar Vortex 120mm fans.
Hot air rises so you want the fans at the top of the case to draw out the hot air. The side fans are used to intake cool air for the GPU. Bottom fans intake cool air from under the case. Check temps after adding the 2 top fans. Adding more fans than needed will cause more noise and disturb the air flow and maybe not cooling as well. Two big advantage to using a Corsair water CPU cooler are the CPU heat is carried directly out of the case by the radiator and rear exhaust fan and the air flow is smoother without the the heatsink and fan of an air CPU cooler.
