HDMI Help

Hello, I'm trying to get HDMI working on my desktop PC. I have an Nvidia Geforce Gtx 560 with a mini HDMI slot and a Toshiba 50" TV, that I am using as my monitor, which also has 3 regular HDMI slots on it. I've tried connecting the two with an HDMI cable, using an adaptor for my GPU's mini slot, switching the TV to "HDMI 1" mode but with no success.
If anyone has experience with using a TV as a monitor, especially with HDMI, please, I'd appreciate your help. Thanks everyone.

So, you sure you connected to HDMI1 then?

Yes. I had a friend mention that I need this converter box or something to get it to work. Ever heard of something like that?
