internal HD as external?

How do i use an internal hd as an external? must be a way with a ribbon cable leading to a serial or parallel port (usb? hd is 2 years old). i just want to take the old hd from my desktop (retired) and use it with my notebook. power supply??? cd use the one from the desktop?

It's a lot harder than you might think. First off, parallel is so slow, that even if you could rig something, you'd hate using it. There are kits to do it for firewire (see http://www.dansdata.com/1394drive.htm for an article about making a firewire one) and there might be for usb but you might find that the hassle and expense are more than it is worth.

There are some external boxes out there that you can plug your hard drives into. I think there is a external PCI IDE controller card out as well. I could be wrong but try lookin them up.
