I am looking to buy a new laptop and wish to equip it with Windows XP and MUI
(Multilingual User Interface) East Asian edition. I have just read that "the
Windows XP/2000 MUI is sold only through Volume Licensing programs such as
the Microsoft Open License Program (MOLP / Open), Select, and Enterprise
agreement (or with a new computer as an OEM version at customer request). It
is not available through retail channels." Does this mean that I, as a single
non-business customer, have no way to get a hold of MUI East Asian edition?
I am English, currently studying Chinese in Taiwan and will need to run both
Chinese and English programs. I have been informed that some dictionary
programs run into problems on installation specifically due to the operating
system being in English. MUI seems like the perfect solution to this.
Can anyone tell me how I can get a hold of a copy?

If its not possible, how can I contact MSN directly to work out a way to get
it. It seems there is no way I can email them on the site without first
purchasing something.

The rules for the MUI are very specific and I have never heard of any other
way to aquire it except through an MSDN subscription. Even with MSDN, the
restrictions are stiff in that the software available there is to be used
for testing purposes only.

Have you thought about possibly setting up a dual boot configuration? This
would likely be the cheapest solution since it would only require purchasing
another copy of XP in a different language. This would be a lot "cleaner"
than using the MUI and a way to avoid problems.

You can not change the language.
The MUI only works with the English versions, #5 on the link below.
The MUI is only available to Volume License users, #6 on this link:

If you want Windows XP in English, you need to buy Windows XP in
English.
