About to pull the trigger on 1st build...

Alright... I've posted several times now and this should be my final draft. As long as nobody tells me there are any glaring issues with this build, I will likely order the parts this week.

My main concerns with this build : Autocad & Workstation, Bluray movies via HDMA connection to 46" LED TV, internet browsing, reliability, quiet, low energy usage

I went with the internal SSD for now - I have a USB external hard drive 500 GB I will use as well

I would also like to know if this setup would support dual monitors - Autocad & internet - as it stands, or what would make it capable - I plan to add a discrete graphics card down the road

I am an engineering student and my old laptop doesn't quite cut it for Autocad, so I've decided to sell the Xbox and take on this project.

Thanks to all who have helped me out thus far... I've edited this list many times.

More about about pull trigger build
  1. If this is for watching movies, I recommend going with AMD's new Fusion APUs, such as the:
    AMD A6-3500
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103951
  2. It should be able to put out 1080p, but if you want to do any processing on it, you might want to get a separate video card for sure.

6570 is the lowest end to get, starting from about $50 after rebates.
But you might want a beefier card for autocad.

You definatly don't need a 750W PSU for this build.

This Corsair 430W PSU will do you fine.

I would also reccomend going down the Fusion route.

    3870K with 6550D Graphics

    ASUS M-ATX FM1 A75 Mobo
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131769

Adding a cheap and cheerful Radeon 6670 into this build at a later date will grant you 6770 class performance.

Wow that AMD Llano looks like a great option... I don't have much patience for slowness.... I think I will go for the A8-3870K option for $145. That's awesome, I hadn't seen/noticed those before, and just decided yesterday to include the BD-ROM.... that's awesome, thanks.

would a 430W PSU handle the AMD 3870K & an additional graphics card down the road?

  6. Up the memory speed for Llano, it effects the GPU performance quite a bit up to 1866Mhz.
Those kits are about $60 though, so you might consider something in between like the 1600Mhz range.
    Gskill Sniper 2x4GB 1.5V CAS9 1600Mhz $43.99
    Gskill Sniper 2x4GB 1.5V CAS9 1866Mhz $59.99

The 1866MHz might be a tad too expensive, but the 1600MHz is worth it for sure.

I don't doubt you... I thought that RAM model was probably a bit under-doing it, since it was called "basic" and none of the other stuff is "basic" ... thanks. That bumps it over my $600 limit... oh well. I'll have to pinch some pennies around the house to do it right

This sounds pretty damn good. - Couple this with a Discrete 6670 and you'll be coasting - you might even get a few rounds on Dirt 3 @ 1080p DX11 :P
