The total for this build is $841.92 it is a little over your budget but it is just an example of what you can get for this price and if you want to swap out any parts that is your choice to do of course in order to make it fit your needs.

The above build is great, but is over your budget, so i'd suggest the following changes:

GPU to Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 - An excellent card. I own it, it runs new games on high/ultra with 45+ fps with 1080p resolution http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948

RAM to G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB DDR3 1600MHz - Great RAM, and unlike corsair vengeance, it doesn't have tall heatsinks so it doesn't make installing CPU coolers a PITA.

CPU to i5 2500K. It costs a bit more than 2400, but it's worth the ability to overclock. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

HDD to Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Not sure if there's anything wrong with hitachi, but sure there's everything right with seagate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148767
