Are there any widescreen LCD PC monitors available at the moment? Can LCD TV display as good as PC monitors for games?

I know Samsung makes a widescreen LCD that's 17 in.

Yeah, companies like Samsung and Philips make good widescreen LCD monitors for PC. Here are some of the products:

Samsung makes a 17", and 24".
Phillips makes a 17".
Sony makes a 17" and 23"
Apple makes a 20" and a 23".

WXGA at 17" is 1024x768, this seems kind of cramped.

Does anyone know of any plans for a 1600x1024 LCD in between 17" and 24" besides the Apple 20"?

Its wierd I don't happen to see any widescreen LCD displays in the 20" range, either its a 17" or a way more costly 23" or 24".

The Apple 20" Display looks pretty good, but you need a adapter to plug it into a DVI gfx card.

Perhaps dual displays will work fine for my or your purpose? The best would be to use the new Matrox video card for that. Getting two 17" provide more screen area and costs less than getting a 24" LCD.

The Apple 20" is the right idea, but I have a few problems with it. Most importantly is that I have heard the response time is lousy. I've had an LCD for a couple years and my biggest complaint is the ghosting so my next monitor needs to be as fast as possible. The other problem with the Apple monitor is that I think it's ugly, and the base seems like a poor design.

I'm hoping that Samsung is planning on releasing something like the 172W, but larger... which they probably will.

Two 17" monitors would be excellent if it weren't for the bezel splitting the screens. I've used dual monitors in the past and I didn't like the feeling of having 2 monitors vs. 1 so I gave up on that idea. However, if there are no promising displays coming out soon I'll reconsider.

I wonder if it'd be possible to somehow remove the bezel and push the LCD screens right up against each other so that it feels more like 1 display.

Same here. I'm not sure when a larger widescreen LCD is going to be announced. I hear so much good stories about Apple's Cinema displays. I know that LCD's in general offer slower response time than CRT's, is the Apple LCD much slower than the average PC LCD display?

Dual displays at this moment seems to be best solution, as for the bezel, NEC does make thin bezel models but it deosn't seem to be thinner than the Samsung picture you posted and both Sony and Philips have 18.1" thin frame LCD aswell.

You could MOD the display's case. It all depends if the electronic contents are already taking up the whole case's horizontal length edge to edge. If it isn't taking up that much space you could with a Dremel tool carefully take the case apart cut away at the edge of the case, but I think you would then void your warranty ;-)
