Hey, I have a question as to why my network/speed tests are faster on safe mode and why my neighbours, who are in the next house, have a faster connection than my own connection?

Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless G to a Trendnet router.

On non-safe mode (normal mode):
-My home connection:
• 1.00 Mbps download
• 0.10 Mbps upload
• Connection has 4 bars

-My neighbours' connection:
• 2.88 Mbps download
• 0.50 Mbps upload
• Connection has 2 bars

On safe mode:
-My home connection:
• 2.74 Mbps download
• 0.24 Mbps upload
• Connection has 4 bars

-My neighbours' connection:
• A blazing 8.10 Mbps
• 0.50 Mbps
• Connection has 2 bars

Any ideas?

Other facts:
• My router is Trendnet Tew-633GR (Supports b/g/n)
• My neighbours have SMC router
• Done on Inspiron 1525 that only has G wireless built in
• My wired desktop tests out fine at 10Mbps
• I had my neighbours permission to perform these tests through their network

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bonus question: Should I buy a $4 N wireless dongle (Draft 2.0) from eBay?
