Graphics card crossfire with a broken card

I took a chance on an untested graphics card on ebay. An ati 5750 xfx the same as the card in my system.
My intention was to run the 2 in crossfire on my new build.
I've just tried the card in my current pc and it powers up, as in the fan runs but no signal from any of the monitor outputs.
Is there any chance that this card would work in crossfire setup or does it sound like I've wasted £25.

Any advice much appreciated.

If the card doesn't work crossfire isn't going to help.
