I'm not entirely sure on this, as I don't personally use fraps, but from several forum posts I've read, the way to get better performance while running fraps is to have it save files to a hard drive other than the one the game is running on. At 85 bucks for a 500g, this would be expensive to test, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Get a SSD, like a Crucial M4, then put BF3 and your OS/games onto the SSD. Set the Fraps to go into hdd. Becuase the hdd is concentraitng on just writing, this will help in fps rate. Not only will you load into BF3 and games faster, but now you can record with better fps. If you have the extra money, go to get more ram.

an SSD wont improve frame rates at all . It speeds load times , but nothing else

To improve performance of that PC add a CPU cooler and OC to 3.8 - 3.9 GHz
Then add a 560 ti or Radeon 6950 instead of the current graphics card

I was thinking about getting a cpu cooler like the hyper 212, but I am not sure if it would fit in my case. My case is a NZXT M59. Can anyone tell me if it would fit properly?

Also I was thinking about getting a SSD anyway, Some of the BF3 vanilla maps take a ridiculous amount of time to load(1+ minute) whereas the B2K maps take 10 seconds.
