Gtx560ti 1gb vs gtx 560 2gb

The 560Ti 1GB will be faster than the regular 560 with 2GB at that resolution. There are some reports that BF3 can use more than 1GB of RAM at that resolution, but the regular 560 isn't fast enough to run the features that use that much RAM and deliver playable framerates. I believe you really have to turn the Anti Aliasing up to go past 1GB, and at 1080p you really don't need that much AA. If you are really worried about the frame buffer you could look for a 560Ti 2GB, but there isn't much point in getting 2GB for a regular 560, even on the 560Ti BF3 and GTA IV are the only two games that would see any benefit from the extra RAM at 1080p. Metro 2033 also sees some benefit from the extra RAM, but only at 2560x1600 or higher. Under virtually all circumstances cards in the 560/560Ti performance bracket will run out of steam long before RAM becomes a problem.

GTA IV is more CPU bound than GPU bound. The extra 1GB of VRAM will only help in resolutions above 1080p.
Same goes for BF3, although, BF3 will use as much VRAM available regardless of resolution. There is virtually no performance boost, however.
It's hard to say what route you should take. The performance difference between a GTX 560 and GTX 560 Ti is around 5 to 15% (just a rough estimate from benchmarks). That doesn't seem like much (around a few extra frames in most games). The extra VRAM in the GTX 560 makes it much more secure when it comes to avoid running out of frambuffer and memory leakage.
I would personally recommend a GTX 560 Ti 2GB or HD 6950 2GB, just to be on the safe side.

P.S. Are you planning on purchasing a card? If so, what is your budget?

I picked up the gtx560 2gb for 179.99$. Was the cheapest option. I wouldn't think 46 cuda cores would make a huge difference. Hopefully is a good upgrade from an hd5770.

Why not just get another HD 5770 (if you can CrossFire it and if you MoBo supports it)?

That's a great deal nonetheless, so no issue really. It should offer a decent boost in performance. I cannot find any benchmarks that compare the two, but HWCompare does show a significant margin in terms of texture processing and such.

holy shizzballs, where did you pick up a 560 2gb for $180? It wasn't the TI version then I take it?

I don't know about that 46 CUDA cores not making a "purchasable" difference... Check this out->
