6850 Driver issue

My friend recently bought a Sapphire Radeon 6850. I installed the GPU into the case and installed the drivers for him. However, after the windows 7 welcome sign(restarted the computer) ,the screen turns black and nothing happens. I had to log in to safe mode to uninstall the driver to successfully enter Normal mode. After uninstalling and re logging into Normal mode, some standard VGA input device appears under Device manager instead of RADEON 6800 Series. Tried installing drivers from CD and AMD....all resulted in a black screen after the welcome screen when rebooted.

Any solutions?

hi. same thing with me. PC was running with this card fine. but when I re-installed win7 and allowed windows to auto update-> black screen. downloaded latest driver off AMD. same prob... driver says 6800 series. manufacturer AMD. PC only works in safe mode???? maybe the driver update is the problem. before reinstall I were running off old driver from cd..

got it working? I think the problem was the Multiple displays.

at startup faced with black screen. type password to login.

here I had a small square in middle of screen. Right click.

a menu came up..

pick "screen resolution"

a window at really low res came up.

at mutiple displays choose "Show only desktop 2"

wala! this fixed my problem...
