[Solved] ~$1000 Mid-Gaming/Movie/Surfing PC

Forum Systems : New Build [Solved] ~$1000 Mid-Gaming/Movie/Surfing PC

Best answer from Silvune.

Word :    Username :

Approximate Purchase Date: 2-3 Weeks (Early-Mid Feb)

Budget Range: ~$1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Movies, Surfing the net and gaming.

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, HDD.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf
or
http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp (same site really)

Country: Australia

Parts Preferences: No particular preference but preferably mid tower case.

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 (23inch LED LG)

Additional Comments: Not too loud and room for future upgrades.

At the moment I have these specs in mind:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K $229
Mobo: AsRock Z68-Pro3-M Intel Z68 DDR3 HDMI SATA3 1155pin $109
RAM: 8G Kit 1600 G.Skill Ripjaws-X $52
HDD1: BYO
SSD: BYO
GPU: 2G HD6950 Powercolor $269
Case: http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=7201 Antec DF-10 Dark Fleet Gaming Case no PSU - $89
PSU: Coolermaster GX Power 750Watt $109
ODD: SATA Blu-Ray Combo LG $58 (Buying else where, where it may be cheaper I'll accept.)
OS: OEM Win7 Home Premium $94

Total: AUD$1009

I came to a little over $1000 my main concern is that the CPU, RAM is too much for my needs And that the Case won't fit the GPU and the PSU is too weak.
Can anyone please clarify or make it any better? Thanks!

Just a note would it be better to buy the
6870 1G for $100 Less? Since I only intend to use a resolution of 1920X1080?

If you are not overclocking then you could save $30 by getting the i5-2400.

You could get 4GB as that is plenty for a gaming build, people just get 8GB because it is as cheap as it has ever been.

I think the 6870 will serve you perfectly fine. However it is possible that the 6950 will have more longevity.
All the PowerColor 6950s on PowerColor's website:
http://www.powercolor.com/Global/p [...] =71&Page=2
are 275mm long.
The Antec DF-10 can take GPUs up to 29.2cm long, so unless the one MSY have isn't one of those, then it will fit.

For a system with a single GPU there isn't a need to go over 550W. So the GX 750 is more than you need. But more importantly it is a low quality unit. So you would be better off getting a lower wattage, but higher quality unit, even if it costs the same.
Antec HCG-520 80Plus Bronze $80
http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=4949
The same internally as the Seasonic S12II Bronze 520, but with longer cables.

Or
Antec Truepower New TPN-550W 80Plus Bronze Modular $105
