I would go with the i5,it's better although the phenom x4 965 BE is nice as well but as Jorgey88 mentioned the i5 is more promising overall, also You be better off getting two GTX 460 for sli tigerdirect has them for $99.99 each http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1781467&Sku=M452-0469 it be worth the little extra cost over the 6850 performance wise but if you can't swing it you could get Radeon HD 6870 $173.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1006280&CatId=3669 the improvement is worth the investment.

I would go for the i5, both are good CPUs but the i5 is more promising overall, also upgrade the 6850 to a 6870, the difference in cost if you shop around vs. the improvement is worth the investment.

Do you NEED a motherboard with tonnes of features? because you could save a bit of money by buying a mid range motherboard. I'd say get the 2nd build, as 99% of the time it's the GPU holding back the gaming performance. (the I5's extra power would be wasted, as the gaming performance would be held back by the 6850)

maybe look at getting a more mid range motherboard, and spending the extra money on a better CPU.
