My graphics card is starting to die, and so my the tv I use for a monitor randomly shuts off. Is there anyway I can disable the feature that sends a signal through the hdmi cable and powers off my tv. (it makes the windows disconnecting sound then restarts my tv which takes like 10 seconds to power on) I was wondering if there was a feature where if my graphic card does this, will it just show that there is no connection on the screen instead of restarting the tv itself.

Unplug the HDMI cable? or disable the monitor in the catalyst control centre.

I haven't had an nVidia card for awhile but it should be something like

Right click desktop > choose nvidia control panel > Down the left hand side look for monitor options or display options > right click the TV and choose disable.

What's in " Set up multiple displays"?

If the TV is the only display then you won't be able to disable it obviously.

Couple days ago I replaced it with my old 8600 gts and it worked like a charm. Used everything the same except I used a 4pin to plugin from my powersupply instead of a 6/8 which my 280 gtx uses. Weird part is right when I got a new motherboard and reinstalled win7, It started giving me this problem.

I would say its most likely a fault card. Maybe a local PC store would be kind enough to allow you to test the graphics card free of charge.
