Looking to put together a HTPC for OTA DVR

Hi. This thread contains a pretty good starting point for what I envision for a HTPC I want to build for DVR purposes, recording from an antenna rather than cable or satellite.

Approximate Purchase Date: 1Q2012, maybe a month later
Budget Range: Around USD$800
System Usage from Most to Least Important: DVR from OTA, Netflix, Pandora
Parts Not Required: No monitor needed, no OS needed
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Prefer newegg.com, but flexible
Country: USA
Parts Preferences: Intel CPU
Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: No
Monitor Resolution: 720 or 1080 on HDTV
Additional Comments: Prefer quiet, will be on 24x7, will serve recordings w/xbox 360, wired ethernet

Initial parts I have in mind:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2300 Sandy Bridge 2.8GHz

Comes to $870, but I'm willing to wait a couple months for the mechanical HDD prices to soften a little. Will the onboard graphics be suitable? Am I missing anything?

Thanks! :p

I got this for my htpc because the cooler its really silent and its 65w only, no regrets with this one work like a champ.

About that case..... i have the same case, bought from neweeg ******* fans Came broken, and the box was fully sealed lol.., and you realize that even when the pic have a lcd, the case dont come with it...-.- sigh u made me remember a Bad Day.
  3. Ok, the CPU. The i3-2100 will be more than enough for an HTPC, and it's cheaper. I recommend the Antec EArthWAtts PSUs, try the 600W model, 430 is a bit tight.
