I can't install the Easy Share software disc that came with the Kodak DX6340
camera.
It gets so far in the installation then stops with the message "Set up
failed while attempting to install package" "Error code 12-17-1603"
I have had the camera about 12 months from new and this soft ware wouldn't
install then either.
Thought I would try it again but it still the same.
Any ideas would be welcome. Windows XP Home edtn. Plenty of memory and disc
space etc.
Cheers.
Jim.

Hi,Jim,
I just got a kodak ls753 and the software on the CD is out of date! I
needed to download the newest version of the Easy Share software from
Kodak's website. (I am running XP Home Service Pack 2)
Here's the link to the download page:

Thanks for that. I didn't think of seeing if there was a later version. I
just assumed it was a computer fault.
Cheers
Jim.

ALWAYS go the the manufacturers website before installing software in a
package. You can just about count on there being a later version on
their website, and you can avoid a lot of pain at the cost of a bit of
download time.

Hi Jim,

Sorry to hear about the trouble installing.

I suggest you get the latest version. You can download from the web at the
Kodak site. Before you do, however, since you had a 1603 error report, which
often means that the system detected an issue with a previous version, and
the installer from MS. If you have difficulty installing the latest
version, upon download, try running the Kodak Clear utility found at the
following URL.

http://www.kodak.com/go/clear

This feature will remove any previous versions and residual files from
EasyShare. Once removed, reinstall the latest version. It should go
smoothly.

Talk to you soon, Jim,

Ron Baird
Eastman Kodak Company

Thanks again Ron and I have now been able to download the latest version.
Everything is working fine.
Must also mention that the DX6340 is still giving superb results. A great
little camera.
Regards.
Jim.

These pages from Kodak refuse to open. Been trying them for hours now.
Everything except the support pages open OK.
What does the firmware do to the camera anyway. Is it worth pursuing.

Perhaps you have a path problem. I had no delay in accessing.

Filename
DX6340110.exe

All Users of the DX6340 are encouraged to upgrade to version 1.10. This
firmware update makes the following improvements to the previous
firmware release, firmware version 1.06:

* Fixes problem of a camera freeze after premature removal of
memory card.
* Improvements to focusing mechanism.
* Enhancements to video playback.
* Elimination of corrupt images on some SD media cards.

NOTE: Firmware is the software that runs the camera.

To view your current firmware version:

1. Turn on your camera.
2. Press the menu button.
3. Scroll down to the Setup Menu.
4. Click the select button.
5. Scroll down to the About… Menu.
6. Click the select button.
7. Note the firmware version.

Filename
K6340110.FW.sit.bin

All Users of the DX6340 are encouraged to upgrade to version 1.10. This
firmware update makes the following improvements to the previous
firmware release, firmware version 1.06:

* Fixes problem of a camera freeze after premature removal of
memory card.
* Improvements to focusing mechanism.
* Enhancements to video playback.
* Elimination of corrupt images on some SD media cards.

NOTE: Firmware is the software that runs the camera.

To view your current firmware version:

3. Scroll down to the Setup Menu.
4. Click the select button.
5. Scroll down to the About… Menu.
6. Click the select button.
7. Note the firmware version.

Just from what this says, I would recommend the update. Note: Follow
instructions EXACTLY. A bad firmware upgrade attempt can leave you with
a non-functioning device!

I got through all that Ron and the camera shows that the upgrade is now on
board OK.
I finally got the update page to open and also the box with installation
instructions but I couldn't and still can't open the box that gives the
information on what the firmware does.
However, thanks to you I now have all this info. I am indebted to you for
all your help.
Best wishes.
Jim.

Greetings Again Jim,

Sorry I missed this post the first time.

The DX6340 as well as all other Kodak cameras are on the support site at
Kodak. Just go to the Kodak URL

http://www.kodak.com

and add the camera name to the end of the URL, i.e. /go/dx6340 (or any other
camera model)

http://www.kodak.com/go/dx6340

This will take you to the support page for that camera. Goes for all of
them. Downloads etc. are listed on these pages.

If you want it there is a firmware upgrade available to take it to the 1.1
version.

Talk to you soon,

Ron Baird
Eastman Kodak Company

Hi Jim,

I tried the pages and found them to work fine. I suspect the issue is with
the URL as you have used it. Since the URL is underlined you may not have
caught the underline between .....dln_ekn........... in it. If you didn't
check the issue to see if it makes a difference.

Good luck let me know if it makes a difference.

You can also get to this page by going to:
