Running a program from its program files

I had to perform a drive swap so that my old installation of windows 7 and all my programs are on one drive, and my current installation is on the other. I would like to know if there is a way to get all of those programs installed on my current installation, and also recover my preferences, start menu etc.
Specifically when I try to run word or excel I get the message "the Operating system is not currently set up to run this program"
If anyone can help me that would be great, I don't care even if I have to dive into the registry to fix this but please someone help

You cant migrate programs from one drive to another .

A fresh install of the program under the windows installation you are booting from is necessary . After that you should be able to import the data from the original disk

Sometimes you can, but not on large apps that install a bunch of shared files all over your drive. You should probably give up on migrating any microsoft programs without reinstalling.

That is not always true, many programs can simply be copied from one drive to another and then launched from the applications folder. This works very well with games.
