15.4" notebook native resolution

please be as technical as possible in answering.

should i run a notebook display in its native resolution?
what happens if i run at a lower resolution?
what happens if i run at a higher resolution?

what is the difference between 15.4" notebook displays with
native resolution of 1280x800 1680x1050 1920x1200?
if i am looking to run at 1280x800 is there a benefit or a
drawback from getting a higher native resolution display?

I don't think any notebook display or lcd can be run at a resolution that's higher than their native ones.
