Doing a build for a small HTPC for the tv. Will be streaming video (netflix of course), playing music from a nas, playing blu-ray movies and such. Not going to be recording live tv for i have a dvr. Thoughts and idea's on this layout.

Case Antec Mini-ITX Case ISK 300-150 $ 80
Mobo ASRock Z68M-ITX/HT LGA 1155 Intel Z68 $120
Cpu Intel Core i3-2105 $135
Ram Crucial Ballistix sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00 $150
Optical LG BT10N Super Multi Blue Internal - Black $160
Storage Crucial m4 CT128M4SSD1 2.5" 128GB $180
Wireless Rosewill RNX-N180PCe Wireless Adapter $25

Total $850

Went with the z68 over the H seiries for it had support for higher mem clock. Since i'm using on board video and know that it is shared, figured faster would be better.

As for the cpu, basically went with the cheapest one that had the hd 3000 chip. Could upgrade higher, just dont think it's gonna be needed. Gonna use the lastest cyberlink Power DVD software, itunes and win 7 64-bit. Think this is enough power for 3d blu ray? Or should i reconsider and go with a larger case with an amd gpu ( really wanted to keep it as small as possible and energy effiecent ).

Wireless adapter. Want something internal (i know the asrock h67 board has it, but again thought higher memory speed). Not 2 familar with these so any suggestions would be apprciated.

Storage, not a lot neede, but don't think 64 was enough why i went to 128.

Thanks in advance.

I just did a similar build (same case actually) but went AMD instead. Some comments:

* With a A8-3870k and an Asus F1A75-I you can get away for about the same price (chip + mobo) but also knock off the wireless adapter (its included on the motherboard). Personally I think the 3850/3870 is a better build for that profile anyway - stronger video for sure.

* 16GB of memory is overkill. 4GB is plenty, you can save about $100 there...

* Hard drive size is also overkill. I got a 32GB Patriot Torqx2 for about $60 from the egg (~275MB/s read & write)

* For that case look at the slot-loading blue-ray player from the egg (Sony) for about $120.

I've also got a similar build. Check it out here.

I like the Llano idea as well, though you could save some money and just go with the A8-3850 and only lose 100MHz. The 3870K is meant for overclocking.

SSD... maybe go for a 64GB model, and then use the money saved to buy a 2nd drive in the 500-750GB range. The case can hold two 2.5" drives.

Also agree that you could save money by getting just a drive that reads blu-rays but doesn't write to them. The LG CT21N that I use only costs $90 on Amazon.
