Hiding "desktop.ini" on the desktop

I have got Win Explorer set to show all hidden files.

I have assigned an icon to the dektop folder and this has created a hidden
file called "desktop.ini" which is on my desktop.

What is the best way to conceal or remove this file (without losing the
associated icon)?

Hi,

Make sure that you have checked the box saying 'Hide protected operating system files' in folder options. This should
hide the desktop.ini file. Also, make the desktop.ini file a system file by going in to the command prompt and typing:

attrib +s +h "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Desktop\desktop.ini"

Anando, I didn't make I clear but I want to have access to protected
operating system files and also to hidden files.

Is there any way of hiding or concealing "desktop.ini" on the desktop in
these circumstances?

Perhaps turning it off for just that folder?

Unfortunately that setting is global and is not available for a specific folder.

The system created this file when I customised the desktop folder so that
the folder had an icon which I could easily recognise in the folder tree.

It would be nice to have this hidden icon file located somewhere else than
on my desktop!

Hi,

This file (desktop.ini) which stores the customisations for a specific folder has to be located in the specific folder
itself.
