Hello,
Does the bandwidth of a PCI-E slot affect graphics card performance? Typical setups usually place the card in a 16x slot, but I have a bulky 3rd-party Accelero heatsink that blocks 2 slots - placing the card at the far end of the board would avoid that problem.

I'm designing a future i7-based system, so I won't be implementing any time soon.

Solution
Yes it does, but to what extent depends on alot of things. Some games will be more affected than others and the effect seems more dramatic in older Intel chipsets like LGA 775 boards and AMD setups. The negative effect seems smaller in the more recent Intel chips though since Intel started putting the PCI-E lanes in the CPU.
