Upgrading cpu

my pc is an emachines el1352g-01w with an AMD sempron 145 2.8Ghz. would i be able to upgrade it to an AMD Black Edition - Phenom II X2 3.4 GHz

  1. No, they use completely different sockets. You would need to upgrade your motherboard, ram, essentially an entirely new system in order to use it in your system.

    That's an AM3 socket motherboard right?
    Take a peek with CPU-z. The Mainboard tab should give you more detailed info.

    from what ive seen they both use the AM3 socket
  4. Then you should be able to upgrade, sorry for the prior post. Make sure you update to the most recent bios and then install the processor.
  5. There is a good chance you will be limited to a 95 watt cpu. Make sure this is not the case before getting a new cpu
