Forum Systems : New Build Here is my build... I need opinions

Word :    Username :

Sorry for so many threads, but here is what I decided for my build:

-CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k ($180)
-Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 (waiting for it to go on sale for) ($100-110)
-Memory/RAM: Patriot 1600MHz 16GB RAM (might bring it down to 8 or 12 need opinions; I could also get it for cheaper if I wait a little) ($60)
-GPU: Radeon HD 6870 ($150)
-Case: Cooler Master HAF 922M ($80)
-PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W (I know this isn't that good of one, but I'm on a budget here :( ) ($50)
-Hard Drive: Some 7200 RPM 1TB ($60)
-Cooler: COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP ($35)

-Total: $715 - $725

Please post what you think...
what I should change...
anything!

Thank you so much guys :D :) !

Change the psu to a corsair cx 600w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139028
And the heatsink to a cooler master hyper 212+

The plus or the evo?

Reply to tw23

the plus is good.

also get a better gpu if you want to really get the most out of gaming with a 2500k.

I'm on a budget...
If I get more money, I will upgrade...

Also, do you think I should upgrade to an i7 or no?

You should be fine for the next 2 or 3 years with the i5 with most games in the last few years you are looking at graphics issues being where you slow down not processing, in the cpu. You should be fine unless you are playing huge simulation games while running number crunching programs in the background.

no i7. i7 aren't good for anything but encoding and rendering.

also if this is a budget gaming build, it would be best to spend 2x as much on a gpu as on a cpu.

Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade as needed.
I'm going to start up as those specs than change it as needed.

Okay, one last question:
Should I downgrade to 8GB RAM? If so, what kind?

You guys have been a great help :) ;) !

I wouldn't bother with downgrading the ram.

First the clock speed on ddr3 ram is pretty good and prices are fairly cheap, you are only going to save about about $15 per 4 gigs of ram, you go down, and you want at least 8G. In the next couple of years before your processor is outmoded you will likely see the increase in ram needed if only for background programs, and general program bloating, but you aren't likely to be able to improve your graphics card or cpu with the $30 gained by the ram decrease so stick with the bigger sticks of ram.

yes you should downgrade to 8 gb, theres no reason to have more than 8 unless you do video encoding or rendering or something that eats ram.

thats a good kit but you can go cheaper if you don't care about who makes your ram.

Actually, If I go down, I could increase to a Nvidia 560 Ti :) .
I think I might do that maybe...

Reply to tw23

yes get the 560 ti with less ram. its worth it.
