Yjo,

Is it necessary or beneficial to apply a thermal compound to your CPU when the direct contact water cooler comes with pre loaded thermal compound on it? As I understand it, once the CPU heats up, the pre applied compound on the water cooler will spread out. Will putting your own little rice sized bead on the CPU and spreading it around evenly positively or negatively affect performance and cooling issues? Thanks

Solution

If the waterblock comes with pre-applied thermal paste than no. Every time though you take the waterblock off for whatever reason you will need to clean off the old thermal paste and re-apply it.

Its not necessary, but ic diamond would be the best. you would have to clean off the stock stuff well. I wouldnt mix different types of compound, who knows how they would interact with each other.
