First New Build. Saved PSU for Last. Looking for some advice

When choosing a PSU i want to have enough power/watts/amps/volts and the proper connectors to crossfire in a couple of months.
This is what i got so far.

Intel i5 3570k
Asrock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3
Sapphire HD7850 OC 2GB GDDR5

128GB Crucial m4 SSD 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s
Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600
Cooler Master 430 Elite Case
Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus
Win 7 professional 64bit

?Samsung CD-RW TS-H292
?Samsung DVD-Master 12E Model SD-612 <----These two Samsung Drives I got randomly got off other computers. I'm not sure if they gonna work?

I plan on buying a BlueRay/DVD Burner soon along with 1tb samsung or sea. barr 7200 hard drive

My AsRock Z68 MOBO can only handle 2 pci express 3.0 video cards. Does that mean i need at least a psu w/ 2 x 6+2-Pin ?

I was looking at these models:

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 $ 99 newegg after rebate

Any ideas on which psu and why?

  1. I you're going to crossfire with that setup, I'd get at least an 800w, that'd provide you with plenty of expand-ability and stability. and your psu won't necessarily need the 6-pins, there are adapters, but the 6 pins are a plus.

    No. It means you need 4 6+2 pin connectors. Two for each card. I would get the TX750 V2.
  3. Go for the Corsair HX750 only $20 more. It's better built and modular also making a easier and a neater build worth the $20.

    Also by the look of it you will need a IDE to Sata converter for those drives otherwise they won't plug into your Mobo.

    Your Mobo has nothing to do with your video card power needs, look at the card. It takes a 6 pin PCI adapter so as long as your PSU has 1 then your good. The PSU I suggested has 4 of them so you are more than set for crossfire.
  5. Out of those, the TX 750V2 is the highest quality one and is based off the seasonic power supplies. It's a mix of the S12II and M12II but is very high in quality for the price bracket you're looking at and is more than enough to power any crossfire build that utilizes anything but the most powerful gpu setups with high overclocks.
  6. Go to Realhardtechx.com and check out their PSU review database. Also the HX750 is rate gold rather than bronze for efficiency.
  7. a HX750 is in the wrong price bracket. He purposely named 3 power supples that are right at a $100 meaning that is his budget.
  8. I stated that on Newegg the HX was only $20 more and why I felt is was worth the $20 to me. I happen to own a HX750 and found the modular cables made the build easier and looked better. It's always up to the person spending the money to make the choice.

  12. AMD states that a single HD7850 requires a minimum 500W PSU with one 75W 6-pin PCIe power connector; PSU needs at least 28A on the 12V rails.

    For a system running two HD 7850s in crossfire, you need a minimum 600W PSU with two 75W 6-pin PCIe power connectors; PSU needs at least 40A on the 12V rails.

    The Corsair Enthusiast Series TX650 with 54A on the 12V rails is more than sufficient for running your system with two HD 7850s in crossfire. It has sufficient power in reserve to support overclocking of the CPU/GPUs.
  13. Yep +1 Rugger. With the 7000 series Radeons a 650 Corsair is gonna great for Xfire,

    A older more power hungry card like a gtx 580 might be pushing it at 650 in SLI. but the 7850 are going to run so much lower power.

    Ther GPU you have listed only uses 1 plug. it is a 6pin pci cord. 1 plug per card.

    With my set up above if i bought a corsair HX 1000w psu or a HX 850w

    Is there a such thing as having too much power?
  17. Nope. A power supply only pulls what it needs to be. An 850w or even a 1000w unit is an overkill for any crossfire or sli configuration for the newer cards since they're so much more efficient than all the predecessors which required 850w + cause they're on FIRE!

    I' actually prefer the Corsair AX / Seasonic X series units (both are the same) for the very high end and highly efficient power supplies.

    It's a rebranded ( identical internally ) Seasonic M12II, about 2.5% lower in efficiency than the X series, and more than enough power for your Crossfire specs
