HIS 5850 and 1055t Great Skyrim fps but VERY bad BF3

So I have a modest build that gets me 45-60 fps on average on skyrim max settings. But I get 21-36 Fps on Battle Field 3, with 1080P WITH ANY SETTINGS! low medium and High has about a 2-3 frame difference each. What in the world! This is with any amount of players. Did a mild 10% OC on both Cpu and GPU and didnt notice a a single FPS increase.

Im seeing on average that 5850's are suppose to get high settings with 45-50FPS. Or am I wrong. I just want decent frame rates and preferred high texture/terrain settings. I cant stand pixel-lated terrain.

  1. In BF3 the cpu doesn't play a very big role in the game and it is all about the gpu , so you have to see what you can do with the video card and the resolution and settings. I would try to lower the resolution just a bit and use med to high settings and see what that gets you for fps and what it looks like on the screen for playability.
  2. Something is wrong, my friend has a 6850 which is weaker than the 5850 and he plays great with Ultra settings at 1080p.

Do you have the latest drivers?
  3. I do have the latest drivers. 11.11. I will tinker with resolution how ever id hate to turn it down to low.

What resolution and framerate? Not anything decent.

For reference, I play on high with 2x5850 @1200p getting ~90fps. Ultra is completely unplayable. Unless he's playing at 720p and thinks 15fps is good.

Something is definitely up. What do your CPU and GPU usage and temperatures look like while playing?
  6. No players = 1080p low and medium = 60FPS High = 50 FPS and Ultra = 30FPS

    Now to try with players.
  7. PS these numbers were way worse, ive been tinkering with cpu settings and turn phase from off to auto computer suffered some error and heard some weird beeps restarted....any way off to test on a busy server.
  8. Overclock the cpu as much as you can, disable 2-4 cores to achieve an even higher one.
