Cooling advice for new CPU

I have just recently purchased a new CPU and motherboard for my rig, the MOBO is a GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990X SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510) and the CPU is AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103960) and it is in this case (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156090) and I want to know of a good CPU fan/heatsink to put in that will actually fit inside my case.

Any advice is appreciated as it is the first time I'll be installing an aftermarket cooler on my CPU. Thanks!

  1. Your links are no good.

    For a standard mid tower ATX case, most people get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO as their fan/heatsink combo. It's relatively inexpensive, and works with just about any modern processor form factor.
  2. Sorry bout that, but, thank you for the info! I was also thinking of springing for some liquid cooling but the liquid cooling is foreign to me.

    Hello ShazamKnight;

    Your case link isn't working for us.
    I'm guessing your case is a RAIDMAX SAGITTA 2 ?

    If so the customer feedback @ NewEgg is that the usual bigger air cooler heatsinks won't fit your case.

  4. For liquid cooling you can get one of the sealed units that make water cooling a lot easier (and safe).

    A couple examples:

    CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

    Antec Kuhler H2O 620 Liquid Cooling System

  5. Yes that is my case! I'm looking to upgrade soon, but I dont wanna fry my CPU in the meantime. I was thinking of getting this "Thermaltake WATER2.0 Performer Closed-Loop All In One Liquid CPU Cooler Dual 120mm PWM Fans 120x25mm CLW0215"
    Link is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106188 if it decides to work.

    That Xigmatek looks to be the winner atm though unless you think the liquid cooling option would be better.
  6. Lets see if we can find a review of that Thermaltake WATER 2.0 cooler.
  7. I'm going with that XIGMATEK and possibly getting an additional 92mm fan if I will have room after installing everything. Thank you for all your help! (But, If you find a good review for the liquid cooler I suggested I may get that when I upgrade my case.)
    Thanks again!
