You know, some educators actually use their summer break to further their
knowledge, either for self-fulfillment or to help their careers. At the very
least, they use the time to get outside once in a while. Not our boy
Mattingly - he's all too happy to tread water and live on a video game
newsgroup for ninety days (yet he'll drop into victim mode and complain
about the fact that he's underpaid, despite making no effort to rectify the
situation.)

Hey coach: your raise will be effective as soon as you are! Or to put it in
a different light, you'd better be thankful that your job pays so poorly. If
it offered a decent salary, they'd probably be able to afford to hire
someone better qualified.

(I know some will think this is a little harsh, but the quality of our
schools is a sore point for me. And as Mattingly has proven time and again,
he thinks he should be paid better despite the fact that he obviously has no
interest in taking accountability for himself. And, based on some of our
past debates, it's clear that he's the type of instructor who relies on
bluster and excuses rather than skill - sadly, all too typical. And the
schools actually wonder why we won't just throw more money at them?)

Matting isn't an educator, that's just another lie of his that you
believed, just like the lie he told about ignorring me.

If you really are an educator how come you're not smart enought to
realize Matting is a 13 year old punk troll with nothing better to do
than troll away the summer?

Hey it's the guy that says "I'm a liar" everytime he replies to me.

It's cool punk, I know you're not a teacher, that was another lie you
made up, I guess you thought that would impres me, sorry punk, that
doesn't impress me at all. The thing that would impress me would be if
you weren't a liar and kept your word and weren't reading this right
now, but you are reading this aren't you lunatic?

I have been reading and posting here for a while and I have to get in on
this one. I have to say as a fellow educator to Mattingly, none of us
expects anyone to "throw" money at anything. That won't solve what needs to
be done to rectify the problems in our school system. We NEED to give the
teachers and principals more authority to do what needs to be done to the
kids who are causing all the problems. When a child can stand up and tell
me to kiss their a$$ and I pretty much have to stand there and take it,
there's a problem. We cannot even tell a parent what the symptoms of
ADD/ADHD or recommend a doctor anymore without possibly getting sued by the
parent and get this,,,, the doctor. Yes, the doctor could sue the teacher
for "diagnosing" the problem. This is for real, it is going on in SC now.
So, I take slight offense to the money statement. I also coach, and if our
students had as much success in the class as does our team on the field, we
would graduate 300 rocket scientists a year. But, one reason why is that we
can "do" a lot more than the regular ed teacher. And our team does not have
a whole lot of money.

Big Dawg,

I don't know where Xbot is pulling these "educational quotes" from
because I rarely truly speak out in this newsgroup on educational
issues unless it is just something so far off from what I know to be
true. I have said all along that money isn't always the issue. In
terms of resources for lower income schools, it makes a world of
difference but it sure as hell would not necessarily improve the
quality of education just by paying teachers more. What I have said is
that teachers definitely earn what they do for the exact reason you
described. We are so limited in how we can react to disruptive
students in our classrooms and yet they don't fear the recourse of
their actions. Had I said some of the things that I have heard said to
other teachers in my building or in my district by students, I would
have been fired a long time ago. Students often end up with detention
or maybe a suspension for things we could NEVER say to them. I am
fortunate enough to have been in my building long enough to have tought
siblings who have passed the word along about me and I rarely find
myself in situations that I see many new teachers get caught up in.
For some professions, it is very easy to leave your work at work. In
ours, it is damned near impossible. We don't work a traditional 40
hour work week because of all of the planning involved each and every
day. Do I think teachers are underpaid? Not in all cases but there
are some who go far beyond the call of duty for their students and they
should be rewarded. It is more along the lines of there are just as
many teachers earning above and beyond their salary as there are who
don't deserve one at all. I personally can not spend 2 or 3 hours a
night grading papers and reading essays. Coaching is the way I give
more of myself to my school than I can during the school day.

BTW, I have followed your football team and you guys have started on a
little dynasty out there haven't you?

There's such a thing as changing one's mind you know. That doesn't
make it a lie, however much you want it to be.

Yea, we were headed in that direction, but when you play the 22nd toughest
schedule in the nation in 2004 and go 5-7 it hurts. But, we will be back on
top this year. Though we started out with a loss to Richmond County, NC.
They are usually ranked in the top 5 on the East Coast, and top 15 in the
Nation. Our "D" stopped the top recruited RB in NC, but the "O" could not
do anything. We schemed the heck out of 'em, but in the end the players
have to play the scheme, and ours did not. Good luck to you and yours this
season though. Dawg

Yeah, it sounds like your games are PACKED though. It's funny because I
never really considered the east coast to have a big hs football fan
following other than Florida but that NC/SC area gives a lot of ink to
football. I think my pitcher (softball) is going to take a visit out to
Charlotte because my 3B last year is at a JC in NC.

Tell her to think about Coker College in Hartsville, SC, or Francis Marion
University in Florence, SC. They are Division II I think. But they have a
pretty good programs.
