I have two diamond 5970's in quadfire but in games I am getting single gpu performance- 20-30 fps on skyrim on max
MSI afterburner shows all gpu's working during games ~60% activity each
- Crossfire cable correctly fastened
-latest drivers for gpu, mobo, etc.
-stock speeds

System spec:
Asus Maximus IV Extreme P67
Intel 2600k -stock speeds for now
OCZ vertex 3 120gb
two diamond 5970's
100w Ultra gold efficiency psu
16gb gskill 1600mhz ram

If anyone could tell me why the scaling is so bad that would be great.

i dont believe there is even a crossfire profile yet for skyrim. skyrim should be maxed out on a single 5970. have you tried disabling crossfire? Many people have reported performance loss with crossfire enabled in skyrim.

Its not just skyrim- Minecraft runs at 60 fps, crysis 2 maxed runs on 20fps etc.

Try maxing out the games settings through forcing it in CCC.

Well disabling crossfire and starting skyrim caused a bsod, and now ccc wont let me re-enable crossfire. it is faded out like when you dont have the ability to select an option

OK returning to defaults lets me enable crossfire. forcing ccc max settings on games doesnt really work. it results in some horrible artifacting

im having sort of similar issue except i cant select crossfire at all. 1 card did run skyrim very well at max settings. maybe ill take my other card out for now :( . this card runs battlefield at near max settings on one card as well. turn down anti aliasing down a bit and your good to go. although i would really like to get 100+ fps....

I have a similar config to you (pair of 5970s and a 2600k @ 4.2~4.6) and I've noticed Skyrim will only use 2 gpus max if I use the Catalyst 11.11c performance drivers. I've tried all the drivers and caps from 11.9 to 11.11c and for me 11.11c has given the best performance. I run 1920x1200 with everything maxed out and I use the Skyrim HD + Mountains HD, realistic Water, Better Blood Splatters, Realistic Smoke and Embers, and a few inventory mods and maybe a couple more that I can't think of right now. I run with all of that and only using 2 of my gpus with each one running at around 60% cycles in use and v-synced @ 60. I see an occasional dip in performance right when it starts raining but it goes right back to 60 fps after a sec. I watch all of this closely via MSI Afterburner + G15 applet.
