DC Jack repair gone bad?

Hey guys,
So I've done a few DC jack repairs and all was well until I just tried one on a Gateway NV54 laptop. This is the jack I purchased:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-IN-Power-Jack-for-Gateway-NV52-NV53-NV54-NV58-Series-/230789633320?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item35bc225528#ht_1568wt_1139

The leads are so small I am not sure I am getting a good connection. The other thing is with those two leads next to the positive lead, on the back of the motherboard there is a lot of solder around those 2 holes. Is this creating a bad connection or a short? When I try to solder those two leads in, it basically becomes one ball of solder, instead of two separate.

any suggestions?
Thanks
Tom

  1. Clean off best you can and solder one pin, then use electrical tape or similar to barrier that off, then solder the second pin, tricky but seems like the best option here
