Compaq missing operating system vista

my laptop didnt work, when i open it it say
missing operating system. what can i do?

If you know how, go into BIOS and make sure you have ''AHCI'' mode enabled if it's not already, as if IDE mode is enabled then that could be the issue. Also you may need to reinstall the OS, do you have the Windows disc? and lastly did this just started happening?

The commonest reason for this is a crashed hard drive..... run a hard drive test.... first...
