Has anyone else had problems with this? Mine stopped working about 4
months after I purchased the camera (I was foolishly using it as my
main method of downloading photos---have since got a card reader that
handles SD), and was sent for repairs (as well, the autofocus also
stopped working) and now a month later my camera has been returned. To
ensure that the USB port was repaired (when not working, it apparently
caused 2 USB cables, one that came with it, and a newly purchased one,
to malfunction), I purchased a new USB cable. Imagine my surprise when
I connected the cable to the camera and computer only to find it would
connect, but asked for a disk to be inserted in the drive. I don't want
to have the 4 week delay in getting it repaired again, but what else is
there? This is a super camera with a cheap interface---it would be easy
to insert the USB the wrong way---so far as I know I didn't---, and the
repair people sent me 2 messages---get a card reader, and don't insert
the USB cable the wrong way---you can guess how angry this made me. As
I am sure is everyone else's experience, most USB cables are one way
only and quite robust. Why is this expensive camera fitted with a cheap
and flimsy, easily bent USB port? And where do I go from here?

Grevilleo-
Aren't there some options in the camera's setup menu, that determine what
protocols are used for file transfer? You might just have the wrong one
selected. After coming back from repair, there is no telling what the
settings are.
I agree with Collin, and always use a card reader. I have one of the
little USB adapters that plugs directly into the USB port as if it was a
"jump" drive.
