I AM going to build a AMD Scorpius platform Computer in the near future and I am trying to decide on the best setup for under 1000k before a monitor.

Any suggestions are welcome I am not going Intel, I want the price point low with high CPU clock.

More about : amd cpu build 1000

If you haven't purchased yet - blind brand loyalty will more than likely get you an inferior performing pc. What is your main use for your pc?

^ This is correct.

For $1000 you can easily do an i5 2500K system. Unless you are doing very specific tasks like video encoding and rendering there is no reason to get an FX CPU. Intel's lower end CPUs dominate the FX in every other comparison. And the i5 is not lower end.

If you check this out you will see the FX 4100 overclocked to 4.5Ghz+ losing to a stock i3 2100 in EVERY single benchmark.

Its not just the intel sandy bridge that beat it the Phenom II chips beat them in most benchmarks as well >_<

The FX8120 is $200 at MC if you have one nearby -- The FX6100 is $140. With good air they will take you where you wish to go.

Pair it up with the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+. Less expensive AM3+ mobos will work just dandy, too.

Remember ... It's the video card in gaming. Team Red or Team Green for you ??

Team Red I like this scorpius platform thing, I think that the FX processors will start to shine much more very soon I think theres too much there for it to just not work correctly , and that what it seems like, and again price point, why spend hundreds more for a advantage that is not overwhelming, its like good wine or good whiskey only really particular people can tell the difference, most would never even not it wasnt the 50 dollar whiskey they just got on the rocks.

Here are a few HD6950 1GB cards to look through. Not sure going with a -2GB card is necessary unless your monitor rez will be above 19x10/12.

Here is the Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ for $120 after rebate that might float your boat.

I think things with the FX BDs will eventually work out. A new stepping will drop power 10%+ or so and refine Turbo (and overall) performance. If you can wait that out it's hard to top the 960T Zosma for buck-banging.

Also - an SSD for your OS/Apps will really make things snappy since mechanical HDDs have reached such ridiculous high prices. Using an older HDD if you have one available for your storage and games is a smart move these days until prices return to normal later on this year.

Don't listen to all the Buzz propaganda about BD FX they are decent CPUs they got power and for gaming 8150 is as good a 2500K watch how much I get bashed just for stating the truth LOL.Typically Intel fans will argue that a stock clocked BD 8120/50 gets walked on by a 2500K however start to OC the BD FX chips and the gaps quickly closes up.

Also the fx4170 comes out next week im thinking about that; I don't see any down side to saving money with and how do I go about using a S s d for booting up. And what about a good monitor 24" unber 300

Lol, like anort says :

"If you check this out you will see the FX 4100 overclocked to 4.5Ghz+ losing to a stock i3 2100 in EVERY single benchmark. "

I would only recommend FX in a sub-$750 build, but even a Pentium beats a 4 Ghz 4100, so :p

Install your operating system on it when you build your computer :)

the 4170 could be interesting depending upon price ...

I am an AMD Fanboy who owns a FX8150, and has owned an AMD X4 960T, AMD X4 945, and AMD X2 250, AMD X2 6000+, and an AMD X2 4400e. All have been great for what I need them for. Non have dissapointed me in the least. When I see the AMD logo I get all warm and fuzzy. I need to find a supplier who sells AMD Bedsheets, Blankets, Pillow Cases and Nightlight, then my room is complete! FX8150 is better than any of my previous cpu's in my own opinion and I would buy it again!/and build it for others!

An i5-2500k is far superior to any AMD solution for gaming. Period.
