I installed a new cpu and when I turned it on it froze in the windows screen. It just keeps doing it but at different times like sometimes I can get into the desktop and use the comp for a few minutes before it freezes :(  windows does recognize the cpu because when I got onto the desktop I decided to run dxdiag and it said I had my new cpu (Core 2 Duo 2.4 e6600) so I'm really confused. Help.

Did you attach the COOLING FAN & HEATSINK properly with adequate thermal paste to the CPU? Check immediately!

Yes I did. I actually can go for a while on safe mode. I've been watching temps and the most I've seen it go is 30c so that's not it.

Did you check your bios? And did you check to see if there was an update for it?

A freezing computer is often caused by faulty memory, You should try a memory test program such as memtest86. When you replace a processor you should always clear the CMOS memory.

my bios is up to date and the cpu was compatible with the mobo.. in fact in dxdiag the computer recognized it. so its not that it doesnt work with my motherboard it must be the cpu
