This is the build I am currently looking at. It is replacing a 4yr old dell xps m1530. I would like to know if there are any incompatibilities with the parts that anyone knows of. Also will this case/mobo be suitable for xfire at a later date? Any suggestions for different parts in the same price range? Finally what brand of 7970 is the best?

well hd 7970 isn't a power hungry card at all.and yeah i am now thinking that that was not a good suggestion.i mean i didn't noticed your resolution.a 7970 will max out any game 1080p.i would suggest getting a 1080p monitor and a single hd 7970.maximum power consumption of a 7970 is 270w.a quality 750w will do fine.now here's a new build for ya :)

I agree, I am only sticking with it because I am limited for space at the moment. I will be changing to a 27" screen with a higher res when I move.

Looks like the RAM is not low profile, I think ill use hellfire's alternative below. Ill probably go with the Hyper if you think its better.

Has OCZ had bad reports? I only selected because it was recommended in the SSD roundup.

I might swap out a few of my selections for yours. I will stick with the 7970 however, I cant really afford the two 7950s and I plan on eventually xfiring the 7970 later on down the track when the need arises.

My other concern is what kind of wattage will i need if i do decide to to xfire 2 7970s? I have selected 650 but you have gone with 750.

OCZ should be fine...there were some issues with the SandForce controller it uses, but I believe that's been resolved now. Are you going to use SSD caching? If so, then bear in mind you can't use over 64GB for the cache (so a 120GB SSD would be too big in this instance, unless you were going to use the other partition).

I'd ditch the Bluray optical drive unless you use your system to watch them...a DVD drive will be fine for games.

So I've created a hybrid of my original build and the suggested parts. I've decided to ditch the Blu-Ray as I would only be using it to rip movies and I can just source them elsewhere. In response to diellur, I probable wont use caching, ill just put the OS and my most used games and apps on the SSD. The only real questions I have now are whether or not the OC'ed 7970 is worth it (the extra cooling is appealing); and whether or not I really want a 2TB spinner (I already have a USB3 2TB external).

Thar she blows:

As I said before, I agree that my current screen is ***, but I currently can only just fit a 23" on my desk. I plan on buying a higher res, larger sized screen when I move in a bit over a month.
