Need help building $700 tower. Intel and AMD

Forum Systems : New Build Need help building $700 tower. Intel and AMD

Word :    Username :

Hi everyone.

I have built comps before and I have been asked to look into a new tower for a friend of mine. He is leaning towards AMD but not completely decided and would also like to know what a comparable Intel setup would cost.

Approximate Purchase Date: In the next few weeks

Budget Range: $700 after rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing the internet

Parts Not Required: keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: ncix.com

Country: Canada

Parts Preferences: Would actually like a build of AMD and Intel also a mid-tower case

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution:1920 X 1080

Additional Comments: Quiet would be better and also will need Win7 included in price.

Hi there! Welcome to the forums.

Hmm, this is going to be a tough one. You're looking at $600, which is not alot for a gaming rig. I'll do my best, though.

CPU: Pentium G860 $100 http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=11113 [...] ture=Intel

Motherboard: MSI H67 MicroATX $110 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6813130570

PSU: Corsair 430w V2 $40 http://canadacomputers.com/product [...] _id=038031

Case: Haf 912 $60 http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=55583 [...] OLERMASTER

GPU: AMD 6870 1GB $160 http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=57118 [...] omoid=1012 Or if you'd like Dirt 3 and a $20 rebate: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6814102948 Either will work.

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2x4GB 1600MHz $44 ($34 with rebate) http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=55544 [...] omoid=1012

Did I forget anything? That should bring you in under the $600 mark, giving you plenty of money left over to buy Windows 7.

Nope you did fine striker410

Hmm wonder if AMD would be the way to go.

I like your recommendations on RAM, Tower, GPU, and PSU. If you didn't have to pick up a copy of windows what would you recommend.

Gonna do some figuring but you helped alot as I have been out of this game for a few years and it is daunting to get back into it.

Ok I did some looking at ncix.com

If I was going to use your selections besides the CPU and motherboard I was thinking of this

Motherboard: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=63945 $157
CPU: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=57964 $212

I am pretty sure ncix still has the price match function so I could knock of an extra $30 of those two items.

Is that a good way to go or should I focus on learning about AMD and try to put an AMD build together.

Hmm, I might upgrade to an i3-2100 and get a 6950 or so. For gaming, the GPU is more important than the CPU.

This is why I picked the CPU I did: http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 20-10.html It should speak for itself. The $150 PII X4 980 and $200 1090t are the only AMD CPU's to beat the G860.

Go with Intel. If you've built computers before, you should have an idea of what parts to look for and where. It's one thing to help out a complete Noob with a parts list but I would think you would have a better idea about what your friend wants than I would.....

To answer your question, an aftermarket cpu cooler is not necessary with a 2100. For $5...
