E3 & e5

Okay so I run a gaming community and we're getting a new dedi. We have a choice between 32GB e5-2620 or a 16GB e3-1270 .... This box will be hosting Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

I know NOTHING about server processors or atleast the Xeon series, I am a consumer PC knowledge. .... Anyways, which is the better deal and better for gaming?

I am hearing mixed emotions on the 2, the e5 is onyl clocked at 2.0 and the e3 is clocked at 3.8. e5 = 6 core and e3 = 4 core.

They are both the same price rental. Which should I get?

Hmm. I'm not too sure either on both of those configs, however loooking at this:

Comparing both CPU's - I would say go for the 32GB e5-2620.

The e5 has more cores for the server, as well as more ram available, even though it is a slower clockspeed.

But what I have been told is the e5 is made for VPS's and such. Not gaming servers. Even though it allows more RAM, if you do some simple math. 2.0x6 = 12 for the e5 and the 1270 is 3.8x4 = 15.2..... You get a lot more GHz total......

Ghz does not tell the entire story.

I will let the others jump in with their reccomendations! I can't really find much info/benchmarks on either CPU.
