I've been outta the pc gaming loop for a bit now, but due to the nature of my work I get to stay at a lot of motels and camps, and find myself needing something to fend off boring evenings that my psp just cant deal with. So I figured I'd buy a budget laptop that I dont mind if it takes a physical beating, so I came across this one http://www.agearnotebooks.com/ocziq17.html#tabs and thought that should meet my needs for some mild gaming, and movie viewing. I hate asking this but what are the opinions if not experiences if this woud be good enough to play games like half-life 2 dm, left 4 dead 2, unreal 3, star craft 2, battlefield 2, and I wouldn't mind being able to play Battlefield 3 but not a deal breaker as I still love bf2, and my laptop at home has a hd5870 so it can meet my higher end gaming needs anyways.
On a side note I would plan on upgrading the processor to the QX9300 and ram to 8gb (but buy the parts locally as it I can get the substantially cheaper here and install them myself) and of coarse upgrade the hard drives to a 500gb hybrid an a 750gb secondary. I would also option for dual 3870s
The only reason I'm considering that system as old as it is, is cause of price (also cause I can get upgrade parts for it really cheap) and durability, and the high res screen is a nice bonus.
thanks

Hi there, welcome to the forums.
Not a good buy. 3870's are quite old, not in production either. QX9300 is an outdated processor, will bottleneck your system.

Overall, the whole machine appears to be using outdated parts. I would buy a newer computer that has newer parts, but can still be found for around the the same price.

I understand you want to upgrade it but I don't think that this is even worth upgrading. The GPU is 4 gens behind, the CPU 2 gens. You'll be stuck with a low end machine, no matter which way you slice it.

My opinion? Find a different machine, this one isn't worth messing with.

I would not like to exceed $1500, unless it's a steal of a deal, my other thought was maybe this one http://www.ebay.ca/itm/MSI-GX660R- [...] 2319486a09 . I need something that can house 2 hard drives, so I don't gotta pocket an external around with me. I do like the msi one I just listed cause it is a 15" and houses 2 hard drives, but read it is a glossy style housing on the laptop, so that would be scratched an smeared in no time at all.

In a perfect world I would like to get something that is user upgradable, as my home laptop my asus G73J is not very user friendly in that department
