Z68 mobo Ivy Bridge

Hello!

I've just bought Gigabyte's z68xp-ud4 and i5-3570K. Does Ivy Bridge require bios update? The rig powers on, boots after a few seconds in a loop and the display shows nothing. The mobo hasn't been flashed yet as it is brand new.

Did you check the Gigabyte's Z68XP-UD4 CPU support list? It should tell you what version of BIOS you need.

CPU support list says Core i5-3570K requires F6 version or later BIOS.

BIOS F6 release date was 2012/02/20 so there is a only a fair chance your motherboard was built AFTER that date with the right BIOS included.

If it was manufactured before Feb 20th you'll need a supported CPU to boot with to update the BIOS.

Judging by your symptoms I'm thinking that your board was built without BIOS F6.

Great, just what I was afraid of. Thanx for the quick reply, I guess I'll trade the cpu or mobo..

Check around for someone with a spare Sandy Bridge CPU first.
It won't take long to update the BIOS.
