More about random graphics glitch anything
  1. PSU?
  2. my PSU is 500watts, do you think i should get a stronger one?
  3. I don't know, I need more info than the supposed wattage :) Brand and model.

Also, did you install Win 7 freshly on this system?

And what BIOS version do you have?
  4. I installed Win764bit freshly today, and BIOS version dont know, the standard one, i havent updated at all, I just tried Skyrim on all low graphics, it seemed fine, but the bug im having is random, wow it doesnt happen straight away, so i feel maybe its driver related? well i hope
  5. Run CPU-Z
    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

And post screenshots of all the tabs except "caches" and "about."

open your case and tell me what the label on the PSU says please.
  6. Also i just the error with skyrim on all LOW and this what i got after it when i opened Chrome
    http://postimage.org/image/k0eu7xrup/
and also my theme for chrome has now gone
The PSU labal is AC 230V...and i got it with this case

  7. OK! Now we are making some good progress.

-Your CPU is overclocked. I'm guessing this was not done by you but was done by the software you installed from the disk.

-Your PSU is dangerous and extremely low quality. It is not capable of running your system, even if it was not overclocked.

    0. Buy a good PSU. See the PSU guide link in my signature. You need a quality PSU, at least 380W.... more would be good for future upgrades.

    1. Uninstall any and all Asus utilities. These usually cause more headaches than they are worth.

    2. Adjust the settings in your BIOS. Probably best to reset to default settings. Consult your manual.

    3. Update the BIOS to the latest version. Yours is two years behind the latest. Be very careful to follow directions exactly, as an error can cause your board to become useless.

    4. At this point you may need to run a repair on the OS or re-install.
  8. Also, it may be that the BIOS does not deal with the CPU correctly because it was made long before the CPU was released... so if you have not OCed and you have no Asus OC utility installed, it's just the BIOS that is at fault. Follow my steps and you should be happy.
  9. I haveent touched the motherboard BIOS at all, so if its OCed then its the bios that has done it, so should i update the BIOS? also i will get a higher PSU soon, i also have no ASUS utilities
    P.S.

    should i install them all?
  10. No, just the latest one. I really don't like you updating before getting the PSU though. The PSU may be a source of SOME of your instability, and a crash while updating the BIOS would destroy that MB.
  11. Okidoki, well i just downloaded the ASUS BIOS updated, and when i went to install it replied "no ASUS motherboard detected"... so do you think this PSU would be ok?

Also you have an ASrock board, not an Asus board (though ASrock is made by Asus). According the CPU-z you have this:

No - look for something made by Corsair, XFX, Seasonic or Silverstone. Preferably 80 PLUS certified.

Whoa. And here I was feeling all proud of myself :)

Nice catch! Here is the right BIOS page

And here is a good cheap PSU in the UK

  15. I'm thinking it's a HDD problem - or that you installed the wrong drivers. So...what is the HDD and how is it connected? And uninstall anything ASUS. That mobo auto-overclocks apparently.

And the mobo page says it supports his proc as it's not older really.
  16. No, he has the 2009 BIOS. The CPU is from 2010. That's the issue I'm sure.

Canvas, when this is all resolved be sure to select Inanition02 as the best answer. He just saved you with that MB catch :)
  17. k im abit lost :D, while i was away i just tried something small, i unplugged the wireless PCI card and a huge fan at the front of the case, i loaded skyrim with low graphics, 5mins and boom, it closed and everything went weird, now i come back and a new guy called Inanition02 is here, hello there, k so what should i do first? what would the best step be? get a new PSU? also that corsair is only 430watt, this is 500watt, why would i go for lower power?

    my motherboard isnt

    is
    http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A78LTM_LE/#download

BUT that picture is identical to what i actually have lololol
also what do you mean by the MB catch?

Quality is more important than max power. Good manufacturers often underrate their PSUs (a 430W corsair may put out 460W), but bad no-names underrate (so your 500W may put out 350W average).

And immediately plug the fan back in, uninstall anything Asus and stop gaming on it until you get a new PSU in there. Stressing the system with a bad PSU can ruin the mobo/gpu/cpu.

Get a new PSU and update the BIOS from the Asrock link provided above. You have an Asrock board, not an Asus board. Once the BIOS is flashed, install the Asrock drivers.

This motherboard thing is making me question other items: Did you use the standard heatsink fan for the CPU? Is the CPU fan plugged in? What thermal paste?

Take a pic of your mobo and post it - I bet you it's the Asrock.
  20. I have just looked and its the Asrock, i got the motherboard free from a friend...what a &%^! :(, but anyways lucky the stuff i got works...kinda, anyways i will get a new PSU asap but i have just looked at the link provided for the BIOS im about to run this one
    http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=M3A785GMH/128M&o=BIOS
    1.50 4/22/2010 Windows® 899.12KB Update CPU code.
3 line, should i install this one?
the PSU is CiC make? any good? :)
  21. I just ran the BIOS update, it did what it needed to do, but when it restarted, it came up with CMOS checksum bad, press F1 for settings or F2 for something
i pressed F1 for settings and it took me to BIOS, i pressed save and exit, it then reset and now im back here, but does this actually mean it updated? or not?
In CPU-z it shows the BIOS is now 1.50 not 1.40

Sounds like it updated - when you boot up now do you still get that error? Does CPU-z still show the 3.7ghz or 3.4 ghz?
