More about trouble
  1. When you put new cpu in try reset bios
  2. Do you have another board to try in? Or some friends which might be able to help?
  3. Your motherboard probably isn't compatible with 125W TDP CPU's (like the Athlon 64 X2 6000+). The Semprom is a considerably lower power 45W TDP chip.

    What is your motherboard?

i can turn on the computer if the new cpu is in
  6. I was right. Quote from specs page "Processor Support Socket AM3 (941 pin). AMD Athlon II X4 Quad, Athlon II X3, Athlon II X2. (Max 95W)"

Beyond that, an Athlon 64 would never have been able to be supported by that mobo.

well the socket on my mobo says am2

That doesn't even matter. Even if it IS AM2, it can only support up to 95W TDP CPU's

    so what are my options

Find a compatible 95w TDP CPU.

For what it's worth, the only info I can find about that board says it's AM3, but if it really is AM2, the you'll have to find an AM2 95W TDP CPU.

Regardless, it's an OEM board that was never really meant to be upgraded much anyway. You'll almost definitely need a BIOS update for any replacement CPU.
  11. The Sempron that you have is AM3 by the way, so that suggests that it IS an AM3 board.

so do u think this will work? AMD Athlon II X3 450 Rana 3.2GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core
  13. Phenom II X4 840 (3.2GHz)
    Athlon II X4 650, 645, 640, 635, 630, 620
    Phenom II 705e, 700e
    Athlon II x3 405e, 400e
    Sempron 140, 145
    Athlon II x2 215, 240e, 235e, 255, 250, 245, 240, 260u, 250u, 160u, 150u

That's the full supported CPU list, so not much to choose from, unfortunately. A VERY limited board, to be honest. There may be more supported by a BIOS update, but you'll have to check and see.

If the BIOS supports it, that should work, yes. Like I said in the post above, it doesn't SAY that it supports it, but it SHOULD work (just maybe with a BIOS update).
